Week 20: I can now deep doc in Cantonese

Image
你哋好! This week was also insane, so much stuff happened and it flew by crazy fast! Went on exchanges twice, put another friend on bap date, had a crazy conversation with a member, and met a 97 year old Chinese man who lived through the cultural revolution. Highlights: - Elder Zhao and I went on exchanges on Wednesday! It was super fun, I always love the opportunity cause Elder Zhao and I knew each other at BYU and are at about the same places on our missions, so we talk a lot about the mission. - It was also lowkey chilly on Tuesday-Thursday, which felt HEAVENLY because of how hot and humid it's been lately - Zone Conference on Tuesday! Fun to hang out with all the missionaries, and also had some fire trainings. Elder Pillion who was my Zone Leader last transfer gave a farewell testimony and it was so good, I loved it - More exchanges on Friday-Saturday where I went with a trainee who's in his first transfer of training so I had to lead my area and I was the lead Cantonese spe...

Week 19: King Kong will buy us McDonalds

Image
你哋好! This week was sooo long but also super good! We did in fact meet a man named King Kong who will be buying us lunch at McDonald's later this week. Kinda lit. Highlights: - We set a goal to have 9 lessons with members this week and we hit 11, which is one of the reasons this week felt so long. But we also were able to teach our progressing friends so much which was awesome!! - Our friend Ball Lu invited us to play badminton with him and all his old people friends, so we pulled up and old man Raymond taught me how to play badminton - Got a contact from a guy we thought had interest, turned out he did have interest but in us not the gospel cause he was gay and wanted to ask one of us out. That's a new one - We ran into this kid Him-Him that we'd met before, he's this random 12 year old kid who really likes talking to us. Blud told us that he told his tutor that he had to use the bathroom and then left and had been riding around on his bike for 30 minutes cause he did...

Week 18: KFC is best enjoyed in moderation

大家好! This week was pretty chaotic, I went right up to the border with Mainland China, went on exchanges, and then watched General Conference for three days.  Highlights: - On Tuesday Elder Chuy and I went finding within 100ft of the Mainland China border. Kinda wild. - I went on exchanges on Thursday and found some super awesome people, including a dude from Colombia which was kinda wild! - On Friday and Saturday, my district finally got to watch General Conference together! It was honestly one of my favorite Conferences of my life, I loved it! I'm a little late to jump on this, but Elder Brown cooked so hard with his talk; if you missed it somehow 100% go read it!  - Also on Friday we got lunch while we watched, and right now KFC has a $50 deal for 6 pieces of fried chicken. The other Elders in the district and I jumped on that thing cause that's a legendary deal. Then we proceeded to each eat six. Pieces. Of KFC chicken. By the third piece I did NOT want to eat any mo...

Week 17: Typhoon Blessings

Image
你哋好! This week has been crazy, but so good! We had so many lessons, met a ton of cool new people, and put a friend on baptismal date!!!! It was such a fire week. Highlights: - Okay so back to the title of the email, during the typhoon when we were stuck inside for like two days, all we could do was call people who used to be taught by missionaries but were to busy at that time. So we called a ton of people, but pretty much all of them dropped off, except for one. We met with Hugo twice last week, and he's actually so golden! He's an 18 year old university student who competes in martial arts tournaments. During our lessons he had a ton of interest and in between lessons he was super responsive to our texts! On Saturday we asked him if, hypothetically, he ends up believing the church is true, would he get baptized? And he said yes, so now all we have to do is help him gain a testimony of the Book of Mormon and the church. Light work. - On Tuesday I went in to get my Hong Kong ...
