Week 58: Guitar Guys
大家好！
There is a building near our chapel called the Exhibition Center that is a huge convention hall that hosts big events. This last week they have had a book fair going on, and our church sponsored a stall, so they had missionaries volunteering. One of the APs is someone I used to live with, so he hit me up and asked me to perform some hymns on guitar for an hour and a half! I accepted, and then the night before they let me know I would be performing with another Elder, Elder Chan, playing cello. Combined. Cello and guitar. It was a little bit of an odd combo, but we made it work and had a great time! It was so fun and so cool to get to use my talents to do missionary work!
Highlights
- I was in a trio for three days this week since all three of us had companions go home. It was so fun, and we were so busy we had to run home every night to not be home late haha
- I got my new companion, Elder Shields!! It's been so fun being comps with him, he's such an amazing missionary and so fun. Our personalities also match really well and we were already good friends, so it's gonna be a fire transfer
- The other day we finished a lesson a little late, so we were about to leave the chapel when the elevator opens and out walks Matthew Bahr, a guy who was in my Trek group like 5 years ago, and served in the same mission as my older brother! It was so crazy to see him
- We had so many cool miracles this week! First was that a less active RC named Richard Chan who hasn't been in touch with missionaries for a long time hit up his cousin who is a member and asked to learn more about the temple! So we took him to the chapel in Kowloon Tong to teach him about the temple and then took him over to walk around. He admitted that the second he walked onto the temple grounds he felt peace come over him. And he recommitted to come to church weekly!
- That same day we get a call from another less active RC named Alex who called and asked if we could meet up that day. So we met with him that night and he told us that he felt so burned out recently and he knew that it was because he wasn't taking the Sacrament weekly. And then he told us he was planning to invite his non-member girlfriend with him to church that Sunday, and then yesterday we see him walk into church with his girlfriend!!!
- ANOTHER less active member named Emmanuelle Santos came back to church on Sunday as well! His family is all crazy strong members, but he has been less active for a while because of some trials in his life. But he came and I chatted with him for a bit, and he shared with me that the day before coming he had started reading the Book of Mormon again, but couldn't get past 1 Nephi 1. But that day in Sacrament a speaker had given a talk about his conversion story, and how at first he couldn't get past 1 Nephi 1. He felt like that was God's hand in his life
Spiritual Thought
This week I saw so many testimonies that the Lord's hand is in each one of our lives. There were too many coincidences to not be God's hand. That's one thing I love about the gospel is that if you look for small miracles in your lives, you will realize that there are so many things that happen that must be God working in your life. Just a simple thought this week, but something I really noticed this week. God cares about the little details of our lives and orchestrate things perfectly according to His schedule
